American soldiers have been given the authority to strike boats of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and missile positions of Iran in the event of a threat to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. This was announced on May 4 by Axios correspondent Barak Ravid.

"A senior American official stated that the rules of engagement for American troops in the region have been changed and they have been allowed to attack immediate threats to ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz, such as IRGC speedboats or Iranian missile bases," he wrote on his Facebook page. Twitter).

He added that a source close to the US presidential administration described this as "the beginning of a process that could lead to confrontation with the Iranians." According to the journalist, the mission is deliberately described as "humanitarian" and allegedly aims to free ships stuck in the Strait of Hormuz. Thus, in the event of a military response from Iran, "they will look like bad guys," and the United States will allegedly have the moral right to retaliate militarily.

On May 3, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would help withdraw ships blocked due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump also pointed out that the relocation of ships is intended only to free people, companies and countries that have become victims of circumstances.

In response, the head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament, Ebrahim Azizi, said that the Islamic Republic would regard any US interference in navigation through the Strait of Hormuz as a violation of the ceasefire between the parties.
