On May 4, at the opening of the VIII summit of the European Political Community, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated the need for European countries to participate in negotiations to resolve the conflict with Russia.

"We need to find a working diplomatic format. And Europe should be at the negotiating table," Zelensky's statement is quoted by the Ukrainform news agency.

The Ukrainian leader also called on European states to form a common position for dialogue with Moscow, noting that consolidation of efforts would be an important factor in the settlement process.

On the same day, the Ukrainian authorities announced that they were considering ending the conflict, which would involve stopping hostilities on the line of contact without legal recognition of the lost territories and with the country's possible accession to the European Union. It is clarified that such a vision is present in the office of the Ukrainian leader, although not everyone shares it.

The New York Times (NYT) wrote on April 25 that the Europeans' plan to put such pressure on Russia to force Moscow to change its strategic calculations had not worked. In addition, the publication emphasizes that the Europeans have lost their place at the negotiating table.
