Melikov asked to leave him in Dagestan to help the new acting head of the republic.
The former head of the Republic of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, announced his resignation from the post of head of the subject, but said that he had asked not to transfer him to a new job site for now to help him adapt to the new leader. Melikhov announced this on May 4 in his Telegram channel.
"I know from my own experience that it will take time for him to get into things, so I asked him not to send me to a new job site yet. To the best of my ability, I will help, prompt as much as necessary, because I am responsible for all the projects we have started, which, when implemented, I am sure, will change the life of my beloved republic," he wrote.
Fyodor Shchukin, ex-Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Dagestan, became the new interim head of the Republic of Dagestan. Melikov called him a "decent man" who is able to maintain the dynamics of the region's development, laid down by the previous government.
On April 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Melikov was completing his work in the republic and moving to another position. Representatives of Dagestan proposed to the Russian president to nominate Shchukin for the post. At the same time, Putin stressed that Shchukin is a decent and consistent person who can manage based on people's interests.
On May 4, the president signed a decree on Melikov's resignation from the post of head of the republic. In addition, the Russian leader appointed Fyodor Shchukin as the acting head of the region. It was noted that the decree comes into force from the date of its signing.
