The Russian Embassy in Vienna called the expulsion of diplomats from Austria outrageous.

The Russian Embassy in Austria called the accusation of the Russian ambassadors in Vienna of violating international agreements outrageous and unsubstantiated. This was announced on May 4 by the press service of the Russian diplomatic mission.

"We have taken note of the outrageous decision of the Austrian Foreign Ministry to declare employees of the Russian Embassy and the Permanent Mission to the OSCE persona non grata...> We have not been provided with any evidence, much less evidence of alleged violations of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations," the embassy said in a message posted on its Telegram channel.

The diplomatic mission added that Moscow considers the decision to be politically motivated and unjustified, and also places all responsibility for the deterioration of bilateral relations on the Austrian authorities. The embassy also indicated that a harsh reaction would follow from the Russian side to such actions by Vienna.

The Reuters news agency reported earlier in the day that Austria had declared three diplomats from Russia persona non grata. The country's authorities believe that the antennas placed on the building of the diplomatic mission could be used for alleged intelligence activities in the country. It is noted that the diplomats have already left Austria. At the same time, the number of Russian diplomats expelled by the country since 2020 has reached 14 people.

On April 30, the Russian Embassy in Vienna announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country had handed over a note of protest in connection with the revealed facts of the glorification of Nazi collaborators. The diplomatic mission also pointed out that Ukrainian nationalist organizations are openly operating in the country with the connivance of the authorities. They hold events related to the glorification of Stepan Bandera and other accomplices of the Nazi regime.
