There are over 500 patriotic clubs in Moscow's schools and colleges, which are attended by 36,000 children. This was announced by the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, noting that by participating in the work of such organizations, young Muscovites help preserve the historical memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.

More than 30 search teams operate at schools and colleges: their members "go on expeditions to battlefields, conduct excavations, identify the names of dead heroes and search for their relatives," Sobyanin wrote on his personal blog.

In particular, over 20 years of expeditions, members of the Don search group of school No. 1476 have recovered the remains of 1,345 Soviet soldiers and commanders in the Voronezh, Tver and Smolensk regions. The names of 215 victims have been identified.

The search engines of the Outpost club of the P.A. Ovchinnikov Polytechnic College have conducted 111 expeditions for almost 20 years and raised the remains of almost 3 thousand defenders of the Fatherland, the names of 206 fighters have been established. According to Sobyanin, preparations for the trips are underway all year round. Students, in particular, study the history of the Great Patriotic War, methods and techniques of search work, the basics of tourist training, rules for maintaining and working with archives, the mayor noted.

In turn, the activists of the Rubezh Club at the Moscow Children's and Youth Ecology Center are learning archaeology, topography, and orientation skills. "Club members go hiking from Smolensk to Murmansk, take care of memorials and work in archives," Sobyanin wrote. — In the spring of 2024, the guys found the remains of Red Army soldier Pyotr Kazakov at one of the heights. They managed to read the medallion immediately, and after two months of searching in the archives, the students found the hero's family."

According to the mayor, the future of the country "depends on today's youth, who are proactive, brave and able to work in a team." At the same time, moving forward is impossible without remembering the past, and "respect for the exploits of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War is the foundation on which the education of a new generation is built," Sobyanin stressed.
