The Swedish Coast Guard, together with the police, boarded the Jin Hui tanker in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Trelleborg. This was reported on the agency's website on May 3.

"A preliminary investigation is underway into the fact that the vessel does not meet the requirements of seaworthiness, which is a violation of maritime legislation," the report says.

According to the service, the operation began at about 14:00 local time, when the 182-meter-long vessel flying the Syrian flag was in the waters of the Baltic Sea. It is specified that the tanker was presumably without cargo, and its destination has not been determined.

The Coast Guard indicated that the vessel appears on a number of sanctions lists, including the EU and the UK. According to the department, the inspection was carried out jointly with the police and passed without incident. Currently, Coast Guard officers are continuing to check on board, establishing all the circumstances of possible violations.

On April 12, Malaysian authorities detained two tankers on suspicion of illegally overloading diesel fuel. As a result of the inspection, it was established that both vessels were in a connected state and were suspected of pumping oil from one vessel to another without permission.
