- The grandfather of the new German ambassador to Ukraine was executed for an assassination attempt on Hitler
The grandfather of Boris Ruge, a candidate for the post of German ambassador to Ukraine, was a participant in the conspiracy against Adolf Hitler and executed after its failure. This was reported by RIA Novosti on May 3, citing open sources.
"Ruge's grandfather, Count Fritz von der Schulenburg, participated in the preparation of Operation Valkyrie," the article says.
Earlier, German media reported that the German government had approved Ruge's appointment as ambassador to Kiev. He currently holds the post of NATO's Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security.
According to the agency, Schulenburg served as vice president of the Berlin police and was expelled from the Nazi Party in 1940. He was involved in coordinating the actions of various groups of conspirators and, in particular, in involving Klaus von Stauffenberg in the operation.
After the failed assassination attempt on Hitler in July 1944, Schulenburg was arrested, convicted and executed on August 10 of the same year.
The Italian publication AntiDiplomatico (AD) on March 12 drew attention to the fact that the statement of the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, about the Crimeans indicates the existence of neo-Nazism in Kiev. It is clarified that in an interview with Politico, Zelensky was asked about his attitude towards Russians, with whom he was familiar before 2014. Then he said that the situation with Crimea had "changed them all so much" that for him they were now "not partners, not friends, not even human beings."
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on March 12 that Zelensky had resorted to rhetoric typical of Nazi ideology in his statements. She added that such statements were typical of Adolf Hitler.
