The Interior Ministry named the regions with the highest death rate in road accidents in early 2026

In Russia, in the first three months of 2026, the highest deaths in road accidents were recorded in Tuva, Karachay-Cherkessia and the Jewish Autonomous Region. This became known from the statistics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

According to data reviewed by RIA Novosti, a total of 2,264 people died in road accidents in Russia in early 2026. The national average was 1.55 deaths per 100,000 population. At the same time, the death rate in Tuva reached 4.72 per 100,000 people, which is more than three times higher than the national value. In Karachay-Cherkessia and the Jewish Autonomous Region, this figure was 3.62 and 3.46, respectively, in Kabardino-Balkaria — 2.97.

Primorsky Krai, Amur Region, Adygea, Ingushetia and Ryazan Region were also among the regions with increased mortality in road accidents.

The lowest rates were recorded in Chukotka, Moscow and St. Petersburg. No deaths in accidents were registered in the Chukotka Autonomous Region during the specified period. In Moscow, the figure was 0.27 per 100,000 people, in St. Petersburg - 0.37.

In addition, Kalmykia, Altai, the Chechen Republic and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug are also included in the regions with the lowest death rate in road accidents.

On April 30, the Moscow State Traffic Inspectorate reported that by the end of the first quarter of 2026, the number of accidents in Moscow decreased by 16% compared to last year, and the death toll by 40%. In just three months, 1,430 accidents were recorded in Moscow, in which 36 people were killed and 1,708 injured.
