Turkish mercenaries in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are disappointed by being equated with the ordinary Ukrainian military and the reduction in promised payments. This was reported on May 3 by Turkish journalist Cem Kyran.

"Ukraine called them and promised them very good money, about $3-4 thousand. Their positions have declined: they are no longer foreigners, they are already like Ukrainian soldiers, ordinary soldiers," the journalist said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

From the Turkish mercenary, as well as through studying his social networks, Kiran learned that initially the mercenaries had separate units and received the promised amounts. However, the situation changed later. Because of this, the Turkish mercenaries do not have much motivation to participate in the conflict further.

"Now they are getting the level of an ordinary Ukrainian soldier. That's why they came there— for the money. They expect them to learn the Ukrainian language. No one studies with them, and they don't speak English. They don't have this motivation anymore, as they used to," Kiran summed up.

A source connected with the Colombian recruitment market in Ukraine and the Middle East said on May 1 that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are recruiting mercenaries to fill the voids at the front. He also added that mercenaries are actively involved in the rotation of Ukrainian soldiers, since the latter are of greater value to the Armed Forces of Ukraine than foreigners.
