The Liberal Democratic Party intends to send an appeal to the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Natural Resources about the need to verify information about plans to build a hotel complex in the Curonian Spit National Park in the Kaliningrad region. This was announced on May 3 by the press secretary of the party leader Eleonora Kavshar.

"I will prepare an appeal to the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Natural Resources with a request to check the situation that has developed around the national park. We will make every effort to make both the residents of the region and the environmental community heard," she told TASS.

The construction of the hotel complex, which is being built under the guise of an investment project, has been dubbed the "wall of death" by locals and environmentalists. As Kavshar noted, the legality of the construction of the complex raises questions.

Earlier, in January of this year, Anatoly Kalina, director of the Curonian Spit National Park, was detained. He became involved in the case due to illegal logging in the territory.

On January 16, the investigation requested a preventive measure in the form of house arrest in relation to Kalina in the case of deforestation. According to the investigation, the defendant is charged with committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 260 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal logging of forest plantations").

A source from Izvestia reported on January 14 that Kalina had been detained by representatives of law enforcement agencies. The Curonian Spit is a narrow sandy strip of land between the Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic Sea.
