The US Senate called Trump's letter about ending the war with Iran a trick.
US President Donald Trump's letter to Congress about ending the war with Iran is nothing more than a ploy to circumvent the legal ban on fighting. This was announced on May 2 by Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen.
"This is a farce. Trump continues to block the Strait of Hormuz, which is an act of war. This is just another attempt to circumvent Congress," the politician wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
According to him, no self-respecting Republican should believe in this, so as not to ruin his reputation in the eyes of voters.
In turn, the leader of the Democrats in the US Senate, Chuck Schumer, said on the same day that US President Donald Trump's statement about the end of hostilities was nonsense, and the armed conflict against Iran was still not over. According to the laws of the United States, the President has the right to conduct combat operations abroad for a 60-day period.
The Associated Press reported on May 1 that Trump had sent a message to representatives of the American Congress in which he stated that he considered the hostilities with Iran to be over. It clarifies that the message from the head of the White House is "legally bold", as it again bypasses the fact that congressmen need to approve such actions. At the same time, Trump makes it clear in the text that the war with Tehran itself is "far from over."
