- The Marines spent 96 days protecting the residents of the frontline village of the DPR from the drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
For more than three months, the Marine corps units of the Center group of forces have been protecting civilians in a frontline settlement in the Donetsk People's Republic from drone attacks. This was announced by a fighter of the 61st Guards Marine Brigade with the call sign Karateka.
"We went to the task, we stood there for 96 days. During this time, we have shot down 90% of all drones, thereby protecting civilians. Drones flew every day, more than a dozen every day," he said in an interview with TASS.
According to the soldier, the unit was tasked with setting up an aerial surveillance point to protect the public. He noted that drones were used with various types of ammunition.
The karateka clarified that among the means used were improvised devices, grenades, ammunition from hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers, as well as incendiary mixtures. According to him, the strikes were carried out in residential areas.
As the fighter emphasized, it was to prevent such attacks that the protection of the settlement was organized.
On May 1, the Ministry of Defense reported that Private Konstantin Stepanenko provided first aid to a wounded colleague during a combat mission, after which he escorted him to the evacuation area. During the movement, the Russian military began to pursue two enemy attack unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Despite the difficult situation, the private destroyed both targets with his personal small arms.
