On May 2, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz provoked laughter from the audience when asked what good he had done for the people of Germany in almost a year in office.

"Well. It's too early for a final assessment, but we've achieved something this year. And you probably won't find it as wonderful as I do. But we managed to preserve NATO thanks to our contribution to the defense of [the alliance]. And also, thanks to our participation in the European Union (EU), we have preserved the unity of Europe," Merz replied during a public meeting with representatives of local media.

During his answer, the audience laughed loudly twice, observing the Chancellor's obvious confusion before answering a question from one of the residents of Germany about how much he had contributed to the welfare of citizens during his year of work. Merz took long pauses, choosing his words, which caused laughter in the audience.

The day before, a rally was held in Berlin, where thousands of German citizens demanded Merz's resignation. One of the activists said that he and his associates decided to get together to send a pre-drafted petition to the chancellor to the chancellery. According to him, 125,000 people have already signed this document.

On April 24, hundreds of people also rallied in Berlin to express their dissatisfaction with the energy policy of their authorities. Demonstrators gathered outside the building of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party, of which the current German chancellor is a member.
