Air defense systems shot down 505 aircraft-type drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the day.

Air defense systems of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (RF Armed Forces) destroyed 505 drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) during the day. This was announced on May 2 by the Russian Defense Ministry.

"Air defense systems shot down five guided aerial bombs, two US—made HIMARS multiple rocket launchers and 505 aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)," the ministry said in a statement.

The Defense Ministry added that since the beginning of the special military operation, 671 aircraft, 284 helicopters and more than 140,000 UAVs belonging to the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been destroyed.

The new ground control system allows drones to operate at a distance of up to 70 kilometers and protects operators from detection.

Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Defense reported that air defense systems destroyed 215 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles overnight over the regions of Russia and the waters of the Azov and Black Seas. The ministry stressed that Russian forces had eliminated Ukrainian drones over the Orel, Smolensk, Tver, Pskov, Kursk, Tula, Kaluga, Belgorod, Novgorod, Voronezh, Bryansk and Rostov regions.
