The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party demands the withdrawal of the entire American contingent and American weapons from the territory of Germany and considers the withdrawal of the first five thousand soldiers a good step towards this. Gunnar Lindemann, a member of the Berlin deputies from the AfD, told Izvestia about this on April 2.

"Trump announced the withdrawal of 5,000 American soldiers from Germany. That's a good statement. As the AFD party, we demand that all American troops leave Germany, and also, of course, that American weapons, especially nuclear munitions, be withdrawn from Germany," he said.

Lindemann added that Germany does not need American "occupation forces" and is very grateful to the USSR for withdrawing its army from the country in the early 90s. According to the AfD deputy, the United States should do the same. He stressed that he also hopes for the speedy return of the remaining 25,000 American soldiers to their homeland.

Earlier in the day, the Reuters news agency, citing the Pentagon, reported that the United States would withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany within 6-12 months. According to the agency, the withdrawal of troops is expected within the next 6-12 months. It is noted that the reduction in the number of troops will allow the number of American troops in Europe to return approximately to the level that existed before 2022.

Representative of the European Command (EUCOM) On May 1, the US Armed Forces announced that the United States was deploying about 80,000 troops in Europe, with the number and composition of this contingent regularly changing depending on the international situation. He clarified that the United States forces in Germany are stationed in a number of locations, including Wiesbaden, Rhein-Palatinate, Stuttgart and Bavaria.
