The leader of the Democrats in the US Senate, Chuck Schumer, said that the statement by US President Donald Trump about the end of hostilities is nonsense, and the armed conflict against Iran is still not over. He wrote about this on May 2 on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

"This (Trump's statement — Ed.) is complete nonsense. This is an illegal war, and every day, as long as Republicans remain complicit and allow it to continue, lives are at risk, chaos is escalating, and prices are rising, while Americans are paying the bills," he said.

According to the laws of the United States, the President has the right to conduct combat operations abroad for a 60-day period. The continuation of hostilities is possible only after receiving Congressional approval for an additional 30 days. The 60-day period of the operation in Iran expired on May 1, which caused such a reaction from the Democrats.

On the same day, Trump, commenting on his country's recent contacts with representatives of the Islamic Republic, said he was dissatisfied with Iran's peace proposal proposed to him.
