- The DPR reported an increase in the number of Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers willing to surrender.
Captured servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have reported an increase in the number of people willing to surrender to Russian forces and the search for safe routes for this. This was stated on May 2 by the head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin.
"Now we see that those prisoners who get in, they say: "Listen, what should we do? We were caught, we were abandoned, without any weapons in our hands. We can't go back — we'll be killed, we can't go forward either — we'll be killed too, or we'll be blown up by mines, or drones will destroy us." That is, these are the moments when [the captured military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine] say: "What should we do? There was an opportunity, that's it, we surrendered." They say, "There may be more people like us, give us algorithms," Pushilin said.
He noted that the weak motivation of the military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is associated with the practice of mobilization through territorial recruitment centers (TCCs), which actually indiscriminately detain people and send them to the front.
The captured senior lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Vladimir Antonyuk, spoke about the incident that occurred after his unit was surrounded by the Russian military. According to him, he intended to commit suicide with a grenade, but could not find it. After that, he tried to provoke the Russian military to open fire. As a result, an officer of the Russian Armed Forces offered the Ukrainian soldier to surrender without resistance and spared his life.
