Pope Leo XIV appointed Evelio Menjivar-Ayala, a migrant who entered the United States illegally in the past, as the head of the diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, which covers the state of West Virginia. This was reported by the Fox News channel on May 1.

"The Pope has nominated Evelio Menjivar-Ayala for the post of bishop of the diocese of Wheeling Charleston, which covers the whole of West Virginia," the article says.

It is noted that Menjivar-Ayala originally arrived in San Ysidro, California, smuggled in the trunk of a car after several attempts as a teenager to escape the war in El Salvador. It is known that prior to his new appointment, the bishop criticized the strengthening of immigration control measures, calling it a violation of human rights.

On March 5, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino posted a video showing US President Donald Trump praying at the White House with pastors from all over the country. About 20 spiritual leaders gathered in the Oval Office, who prayed for the protection of the troops and asked the Almighty to continue giving the President of the United States strength.
