Fico expressed gratitude to the Red Army for 81 years of peace in Europe

With their feat, the Red Army soldiers ensured 81 years of peace and tranquility in Europe. This was announced by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico at a May Day rally in the town of Banovce nad Bebravou.

He noted that out of gratitude to the fighters, he would go to Moscow to participate in events dedicated to their memory.

"We are going to Moscow to lay flowers [on the graves] of those who liberated us and provided us with 81 years of peace and tranquility. <...> On behalf of all Slovaks, I would like to express my gratitude to the representatives of the Red Army," the politician said in his speech, the video of which is posted on the page of the Course — Social Democracy party he heads." on the social network Facebook (owned by Meta, whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

Czech Foreign Ministry spokesman Adam Cerge announced on the same day that Fico would be able to cross the air border with the Czech Republic to be sent to Russia for the celebration of the 81st anniversary of the Victory. A day earlier, the Prime Minister of Slovakia confirmed his intention to arrive in Moscow to celebrate Victory Day, and also stated that he intends to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
