Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev attended the summit of Sports Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on May 1.

"We are located and working in Kyrgyzstan. The summit of sports ministers of all SCO countries is taking place here. We have finally approved the working group on sports, a permanent body that will coordinate all sports activities, and it is very large," he said.

As a result of the discussions, a new format of the SCO Games was approved — they will be held as a year-round tournament with competitions in different countries. Russia will host competitions in ten sports.

In addition, the participants supported the creation of a Single SCO Calendar Plan. A number of countries have also confirmed their participation in the "Nomad Games" to be held in 2026 in Kyrgyzstan.

On March 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed hope that the IOC would stop discriminating against Russian athletes and stop "doing magic tricks." Degtyarev also noted that the IOC, in his opinion, has taken a course to reduce the politicization of sports, and stressed that the Ministry of Sports continues to fight for the restoration of the rights of Russian athletes.
