The Federation Council called the conversation between Putin and Trump important
A conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump is always important, no matter how long it takes. Andrey Klimov, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council for International Affairs, said this on Thursday, April 30.
The senator stressed that reconciliation of clocks on important issues between Washington and Moscow is extremely necessary, and the more such reconciliations there are, the better for the international community. According to him, Russia is not a party to the conflict in the Middle East, but is ready to mediate in its settlement if it is asked to do so.
"Russia is not a party to the conflict in the Middle East, has never pushed anyone into this conflict, and is ready to act as a mediator if asked to do so in order to peacefully end this confrontation, which is dangerous for the whole world,— Klimov stressed in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
Speaking about the conflict in Ukraine, the senator noted that it began to be created under Barack Obama, and continued under Joe Biden.
"Trump and his team found themselves tied hand and foot by the circumstances in which events unfolded in the period after the second election of Donald Trump as president of the United States of America," the politician said.
At the same time, he added that the Americans remain a party to the conflict, since it essentially boils down to a conflict between the West and Russia, and the United States positions itself as the leading force in the West.
"These are different stories that happen at the same time and are somehow connected with Russia. In the Ukrainian conflict, we are simply attacked, and we defend ourselves in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations. In the conflict in the Middle East, if you look at the map, you can see that beyond Iran is the Caspian Sea, and we are already above it. That is, we are a border area that borders a very dangerous explosive conflict zone," Klimov explained.
The day before, Putin and Trump had a telephone conversation. It lasted more than 1.5 hours. The American leader added that the conversation was very good. Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov informed that after the telephone talks, the leaders agreed to maintain further contacts.
