Nutritionist Elena Solomatina told us which hormones are able to control joy and balance.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Thursday, April 30, the specialist noted that mood largely depends on at least two key hormones — serotonin and dopamine. According to her, serotonin is responsible for a sense of satisfaction, calmness and security: it is produced, for example, after eating, relaxing or socializing and signals to the body that everything is in order and you can relax.

She explained that serotonin is synthesized from the amino acid tryptophan, which must be obtained from food. It is better to give preference to whole grains, milk, as well as sources such as turkey, brown rice, mushrooms, tomatoes, and fermented foods.

At the same time, dopamine, according to her, performs another function — it is responsible for motivation and moving forward. This hormone is produced from tyrosine, which is found in fish, poultry, eggs, avocados and legumes, and is most actively released at the moment of waiting for a result, encouraging a person to act, learn and set goals.

The expert emphasized that it is a common mistake to try to improve mood only through "serotonin" products, forgetting about dopamine. In this case, according to her, a person can feel calm, but at the same time lose motivation and interest in life.

On April 29, nutritionist Elena Solomatina told us which foods can affect mood. According to her, fatty fish with omega-3 supports the functioning of neurons and signal transmission in the brain, sauerkraut provides the body with beneficial bacteria, fiber and vitamin C, and onions, especially red ones, due to quercetin, helps reduce inflammation and improve blood circulation.
