The State Traffic Inspectorate announced raids across Russia during the May holidays
Starting from the last day of April and the first May holidays, traffic police officers will conduct massive and continuous checks on the country's roads, with special attention being paid to finding drunk drivers. On April 30, the regional departments of the State Traffic Inspectorate announced the implementation of preventive measures.
Raids on drunk motorists will take place in Tambov, Kostroma, Kurgan, Kirov, Ulyanovsk, Murmansk, Kursk regions, as well as in the Republic of Mari El, the Republic of Bashkortostan and other regions of the country.
On the eve of the long May weekend, the State Traffic Inspectorate reminded about the inadmissibility of driving while intoxicated. To ensure safety, the number of patrols on highways will be increased this weekend, the ministry noted.
They asked citizens who saw that the driver was driving in an inadequate condition to report this to the police: for all such appeals, the necessary rapid response measures will be taken immediately.
"May holidays are traditionally associated with trips outside the city, to picnics and summer cottages. In this regard, we strongly ask motorists to plan their leisure time in advance in order to avoid driving after festive feasts and the consumption of alcoholic beverages. Such trips lead to the most serious consequences.: do not risk your life, the lives of your passengers and other road users," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for the Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
He recalled that driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as refusing a medical examination, entails the deprivation of a driver's license for a period of one and a half to two years and a heavy fine. In addition, in some cases, the driver faces criminal liability.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that by the end of the first quarter of 2026, the number of road accidents in Moscow decreased by 16% compared to last year, and the death toll by 40%.
