Peter Magyar, the leader of the Tisa party that won the elections in Hungary, insisted on expanding the rights of the Hungarian community in Ukraine. This was reported by Bloomberg on April 30, citing sources.

It is specified that this issue was raised during a meeting held on April 29 in Brussels between Magyar and President of the European Council (EU) Antonio Costa.

"The Magyar has put forward conditions that basically repeat the list of 11 demands presented by the former prime minister [of Hungary]. Viktor Orban to Kiev in 2024. They concern the rights of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine and access to education in the Hungarian language," the article says.

The authors write that such a position may disappoint officials in Brussels and Kiev, who relied on the Magyar coming to power in Hungary and hoped that Orban's defeat would have a beneficial effect on Ukraine's membership in the EU.

Magyar announced on April 28 that he intends to hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in early June. He clarified that he was symbolically initiating the meeting in the city of Beregovo.

The newspaper L'antidiplomatico reported on April 18 that the Magyar was slowing down the process of transferring aid to Ukraine. The authors of the article emphasize that although in Brussels they thought that Magyar was more pro-European, now he is dictating terms to the European Union (EU).
