Mishustin called for maximum effective assistance to flood victims
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on Thursday, April 30, announced the need to provide maximum effective assistance to flood victims in the North Caucasus.
The Head of Government stressed that the recent heavy rains, which caused the greatest damage to Dagestan, demonstrated the importance of monitoring the state of infrastructure.
"On behalf of the president, a government commission has been established to eliminate the consequences of floods. Assistance should be provided as efficiently as possible and strictly in accordance with the established procedure. So that people can return to their usual lives, business, and work as soon as possible," Mishustin said at a meeting of the government commission on socio-economic development of the North Caucasus Federal District.
The Prime Minister also called on the commissions that assess the damage in the flood-affected regions to speed up their work.
On March 29, the head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, said that Makhachkala and Khasavyurt had suffered the most due to floods in Dagestan. He said that the regional government has already begun to assess the consequences and think about possible solutions to eliminate them. He also expressed the hope that the flooding would soon subside.
