Washington has decided to unfreeze a $400 million package of financial assistance to Ukraine that has been sanctioned by the US Congress. This was announced on April 29 by the head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth.

"The ministry recognizes that $400 million was allocated for the development of European potential, and as of yesterday they were released," The Hill quoted him as saying.

The corresponding step, as specified, was taken by the Pentagon immediately after one of the representatives of the Republican Party, Senator from Kentucky Mitch McConnell, wrote an angry message criticizing the delay in financing Kiev.

It is specified that the timing of the use of this money will depend on what exactly Kiev wants to buy with it. In such operations, the Pentagon will follow the advice of the commanders of the European Command of the US Armed Forces (EUCOM).

At the same time, on April 18, Elbridge Colby, Hegseth's deputy for political affairs, pointed to the expectations of the United States from its allies to be ready to shoulder the main burden of further financing Kiev. According to him, this process should not depend on significant contributions from the American side.

Political analyst Dmitry Zhuravlev said on March 23 that US President Donald Trump would not supply military equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) for free, but would not abandon the sale of weapons to Europe. In this matter, according to the expert, the head of the White House is based on economic benefits for his country.
