Alexander Nesterovich, General Director of the coal enterprise in the Magadan region, where the mine collapsed, said that the cause of the incident was a mudslide. He told RIA Novosti about this on April 30.

"There has been a mudslide. There was a lens in this place, the permafrost thawed, and a collapse occurred. There are probably eight people under the rubble. These are both local residents and residents of other regions of Russia," the company's CEO said.
