- The Russian Federation has developed frost- and bullet-resistant batteries for military equipment
Specialists of the Rostec State Corporation (GC), with the participation of RT-Design Technologies holding, have created frost- and bullet-resistant batteries that can be integrated into military equipment. This was announced on April 30 on the organization's website.
"Import-substituted power sources have been developed that are not afraid not only of Arctic frosts and strong vibrations, but also of bullets. Unlike conventional electrolyte batteries, the new products can be mounted in any position," the article says.
It is noted that the created solution may be in demand for starting engines of heavy military equipment and become relevant for ensuring uninterrupted operation of power supply to command posts and communication centers.
The development is unique because it does not contain liquid electrolyte due to the presence of special fiberglass "sponges". This allows even a thoroughly damaged object, potentially equipped with a similar battery, not to stop in conditions of severe shaking.
Alexander Nazarov, Deputy General Director of Rostec, commenting on the tests successfully completed by the new product, clarified that within their framework, specialists tested power supplies at temperatures from +50 to -50 degrees. According to him, some facilities of the Russian maritime infrastructure are already equipped with such batteries.
On April 9, Rostec announced plans to create an engine of the NK-3 model, which will be designed for ultralight space launch vehicles called Voronezh. It is expected that the engine will have a thrust of 4.5 tons and run on environmentally friendly fuel.
