Powell announced plans to remain on the Fed's board of governors after May 15.
The head of the US Federal Reserve System, Jerome Powell, said on April 29 that after the end of the chairman's term on May 15, he intends to continue working on the board of governors of the US financial regulator.
"I will continue to serve as the manager for a period that has yet to be determined. As manager, I plan to keep a low profile," Powell said during a press conference with RIA Novosti.
Powell's term of office expires on May 15, but he may remain on the board of governors until 2028.
Bloomberg reported on the same day that the U.S. Senate Banking Committee approved Kevin Warsh's candidacy for the post of Fed chairman. It was clarified that his nomination, initiated by American leader Donald Trump, was supported by 13 senators, 11 opposed.
