Hegseth stated Trump's belief in a peace treaty between Russia and Ukraine
US President Donald Trump is still counting on reaching a "peace deal" between Moscow and Kiev. This was announced on April 29 by the head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth.
"Ultimately, President Trump believes in reaching a deal between Russia and Ukraine," Hegseth said, speaking at a hearing before the House Armed Services Committee. The video of his speech was published by the Clash Report Telegram channel.
In addition, the head of the Pentagon criticized the former president of the United States, Joe Biden, for transferring American weapons to Ukraine "worth hundreds of billions of dollars" without proper responsibility.
According to him, this would not have happened if Trump had been at the head of the country. Hegseth also noted that Europe has now started paying for arms supplies, which he considers a positive change.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on April 18 that Russia was positive about the possibility of resuming negotiations in Istanbul on a settlement in Ukraine. He added that Moscow has never walked away from initiatives of diplomatic discussion and is ready to consider proposals from interested countries.
