The current relationship between the United States and the European Union (EU) is similar to the "Marriage Crisis." This was announced on April 29 by the Head of the Belgian Ministry of Defense, Theo Franken.

"I'm sure we're having a crisis in our marriage. There is a lot of frustration on both sides of the Atlantic. There is a lot of misunderstanding of each other's position and sometimes even anger," the South China Morning Post (SCMP) newspaper quoted Franken as saying.

Franken noted that disagreements can create a dangerous environment, and it is better for the EU and the United States to stick together in such difficult times. He also said that NATO is not used to the "cruel" rhetoric of American President Donald Trump. The official clarified that both sides should distinguish between tone and content, since the number of US troops in Europe remained the same, and Washington increased the amount of funds for NATO programs.

Trump had stated on his Truth Social network a day earlier that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz did not understand what he was talking about when he allowed Iran to obtain nuclear weapons.

Earlier, on April 26, Trump also stated that he was very disappointed with the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO). According to him, the dissatisfaction is caused by the fact that NATO members did not provide the United States with the necessary support when it was needed.
