Axios reported on the White House's plans to resume cooperation with Anthropic

The White House is considering changing the rules of how federal agencies work with artificial intelligence in order to regain access to the products of the AI developer Anthropic. This was reported on April 28 by the Axios portal, citing sources.

Earlier, the Pentagon recognized the company as a threat to supply chains, which led to a lawsuit filed by Anthropic against federal authorities. However, as Axios found out, the US administration is now looking for ways to resolve this conflict.

"The White House is developing instructions that will allow agencies to bypass the threat status assigned to the supply chain by Anthropic and introduce new models, including the most powerful at the moment — Mythos," the portal writes, citing informed sources.

According to two interlocutors of the publication, the decree being developed is intended to update the principles of using AI by government agencies and resolve the confrontation with Anthropic. One of them described the ongoing work as an attempt to "save face and bring the company back."

"The US administration continues to actively interact with government agencies and businesses to protect the country and American citizens, including through cooperation with advanced AI laboratories," the article says.

Despite the tough stance of some Pentagon officials, other participants in the discussions consider the confrontation with Anthropic ineffective and are ready to look for a way out of the situation.

The company was declared a threat to the supply chain after it refused to provide the military with access to its technology, citing the prematurity of using AI to create autonomous weapons and the lack of a legal framework for surveillance.
