The HIV incidence rate in Russia has fallen to a historic low. This was announced on April 29 by the press service of the Ministry of Health.

"Since 2016, since the launch of the first iteration of the state strategy for combating the spread of HIV infection, the incidence rate has been <... It has halved, reaching a historic low," RIA Novosti quoted the agency as saying.

The ministry noted that this was made possible by the expansion of testing, which in 2025 was completed by almost 40% of Russians.

According to the press service, the number of registered new cases of the disease last year amounted to 43 thousand, which is almost 11% lower than the same indicator in 2024. The Ministry of Health also added that by the end of 2025, the coverage of antiretroviral therapy reached 91.8%, exceeding the target value.

On March 24, Irina Vasilyeva, chief freelance specialist in phthisiology at the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution NMIC FPI of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, announced the impact of HIV on the increase in the incidence of tuberculosis. According to her, Perm Krai, Irkutsk, Kemerovo, Novosibirsk and Samara regions are among the territories with the most difficult tuberculosis situation.
