200 road accidents have occurred in Russia over the past day
Over the past day, 200 accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 26 people were killed and 229 injured. 16 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on April 29 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
17 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and 19 more road users, including one child, required medical assistance. 11 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.
As a result of 51 accidents, 21 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 30 outside their area of operation, one pedestrian was killed, 52 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 10 child pedestrians, half of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside pedestrian crossings.
26 accidents involving minors were also registered, as a result of which 27 young road users were injured, including 12 child passengers and three motor transport drivers. One child passenger was killed.
So, in the early morning in the Moscow region, on 85 km of the federal highway M-9 Baltia, a 54-year-old passenger car driver drove off the road in a snowfall and crashed into a lighting pole. As a result of the accident, a 15-year-old passenger of the car was killed, who was in the back seat at the time of the accident. The driver and two other passengers were hospitalized with injuries. According to one of the injured passengers interviewed by the police at the hospital, it was established that the motorist was driving the vehicle in a tired state.
The State Traffic Inspectorate urged drivers not to overestimate their strength and to closely monitor their health.
"We draw attention to the need for proper rest before upcoming trips, especially long-distance ones. Do not overestimate your strength and health, and avoid driving when you are tired or sick. At the slightest sign of malaise or fatigue, temporarily cancel the trip until you get a full rest or recovery. Remember that not only your personal life and health depend on your well—being, but also the lives and health of other road users, including your passengers," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child Traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
In addition, the State Traffic Inspectorate urged drivers to transport children in strict accordance with current safety regulations. According to operational information, 418 accidents involving child passengers occurred in the Russian Federation during the 28 days of April, in which 12 minor road users of this category under the age of 16 were killed, and 500 more were injured.
On April 28, the Russian Interior Ministry confirmed that the law does not prohibit the use of magnetic fasteners for fixing state registration plates on cars. The ministry's position has been repeated to the regions, said Yaroslav Nilov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs.
