Participants in the liquidation of the Chernobyl disaster and Russians evacuated from the affected area received a lump sum payment on the eve of the 40th anniversary of the accident. The corresponding order was received from the governors of four regions.

Thus, the governor of the Vologda region, Andrei Bocharov, also ordered to pay 10,000 rubles to residents of the region who suffered radiation sickness or other illnesses due to the disaster. Payments are also due to their children if their descendants are found to have genetic effects from radiation. And 5 thousand rubles were received by evacuated residents of the region and family members of those who died from exposure to participants in the disaster response.

In Crimea, they also paid from 5 to 10 thousand rubles. And in the Krasnoyarsk and Altai Territories, the amount of the payment was only five thousand: this is a single amount for both liquidators and their parents, children and widows.

At the same time, monthly payments to Chernobyl victims have increased by 5.6% since February 1, 2026.

The Chernobyl disaster affected hundreds of thousands of people. It is difficult to determine the exact number of victims, since the damage from exposure to radiation is long-lasting. The Chernobyl zone is still uninhabited.
