On the eve of the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, more than a hundred commemorative events were held in all regions of Russia. The Russian government approved the plan for them back in 2025. The regions organized memorial concerts, conferences, lessons, as well as improved memory alleys, monuments and memorials.

So, in Moscow, flowers were laid at the memorial to the heroes of Chernobyl on Poklonnaya Gora. In addition, the report "40 years of the Chernobyl accident: results and prospects of overcoming its consequences in Russia 1986-2026" was presented in the capital. A memorial evening "40 years of Chernobyl: bitter memory and eternal Pain" was held at the Russian State Library for the Blind.

A scientific and practical conference "40 years of the Chernobyl accident: analysis, lessons and conclusions" was also held at the Mariinsky Palace in St. Petersburg. Liquidators, widows of Chernobyl victims and their children took part in it.

More than 60 events have been implemented in the Rostov region, including memorial alleys and film screenings. In the Kirov region, more than ten educational events were organized in schools to tell the younger generation about the disaster. In addition, a memorial service for the victims of the disaster was held in the Kirovsky temple.

A memorial and museum exhibition dedicated to the liquidators have been opened in the Novosibirsk Region. It is expected that a permanent exhibition will appear in Novosibirsk, and a separate memorial object will be created in 2026.

On the night of April 26, 1986, explosions occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the fourth power unit, which led to its destruction. Hundreds of thousands of specialists were sent to eliminate the Chernobyl disaster, who, risking their health, minimized the radiation consequences of the incident.
