King Charles III of Great Britain joked during a reception at the White House that 200 years ago the British burned it down as part of a "small attempt at beautification." This was announced on April 29 by the American portal MEAWW on its Facebook page (owned by the organization Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

"King Charles III brought humor to the state dinner at the White House by playfully mentioning the ballroom project proposed by [US] President Donald Trump in the East Wing [of the White House], joking about a "small attempt at beautification"<...> during the famous arson of the White House by Great Britain in 1814," the publication says.

The monarch, speaking at a dinner on the occasion of the reception of the royal couple of Great Britain, jokingly pointed to the reconstruction of the residence of the US president after Trump's visit to Windsor Castle last year.

During a press conference with reporters on March 2, the American president took a break from the topic of the Iranian conflict to tell the audience about the construction of a new ballroom in the White House. According to him, the noise of construction workers is very annoying to the first lady— Melania Trump.

The Hill newspaper reported on August 2, 2025, that Trump's plan to create a ballroom in the White House with an area of 90,000 square feet (8.3 thousand square meters) and a cost of approximately $200 million was criticized in the United States.
