France's plans to build up nuclear weapons could trigger a global nuclear conflict. This was announced on April 29 by Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov.

"The plans announced by the French and the involvement of an increasing number of non—nuclear states in their nuclear orbit <...> directly provoke an escalation of international tension and increase the possibility of a nuclear conflict on a global scale," Gatilov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He has previously noted that Russia is ready for such a step by a European country.

The Wirtualna Polska portal reported on April 23 that France and Poland will hold joint exercises of their Air Forces, where they will simulate the use of nuclear warheads. The authors of the article stressed that in exchange for "a kind of nuclear umbrella," French President Emmanuel Macron expects the Polish military to begin actively purchasing weapons, and the French energy company EDF to participate in the creation of nuclear power plants in Poland.

The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, said on April 20 that the world is currently on the verge of a new nuclear arms race. He noted that in a number of countries in Europe, Asia Minor and the Far East, the issue of the possible possession of nuclear weapons is increasingly being raised in the public space.
