IFAB introduced a red card for covering your mouth at the 2026 World Cup
The International Council of Football Associations (IFAB) has introduced a red card for covering your mouth during conflict situations with an opponent. This was announced on April 28 on the official website of the council.
"At the discretion of the competition organizer, any player who closes his mouth during a conflict with an opponent may be punished with a red card," the publication says.
It is assumed that in this way the football player covers up the spoken curses and phrases that can offend the opponent. This rule can negate such cases.
Athletes will also be removed from the field for demonstrative behavior, which is a sign of protest against the judge's decision.
