- The film about Sudoplatov received a special prize from the International Festival of Proper Cinema
The documentary film "Sudoplatov. Chronicles of the Secret War through the Eyes of an Eyewitness" produced by the National Media Group (NMG) on April 28 received a special prize at the VI International Festival of Proper Cinema at the Victory Museum.
The premiere of the film took place in September last year on REN TV. The film is made in the genre of game documentaries and is based on the last interview of the outstanding Soviet intelligence officer Pavel Sudoplatov. The project tells about the operations of the Soviet special services that influenced world history.
Ekaterina Avaliani, the head of the NMG DOC, receiving the award, said that the main goal of the creators was to convey to the younger generation the truth about the key events of the past.
"We had only one goal: to let our children <...> know how it all started. And how much effort did very brave, very smart, very educated people put into winning that (Great Patriotic War. — Ed.) the war, what forces were involved then. And surprisingly, these same forces are also involved now. Practically nothing has changed since then: neither the script, nor the participants," she said.
As Avaliani noted in an interview with Izvestia, NMG DOK does not create such projects for the sake of winning festivals. The purpose of such paintings is to educate. She added that REN TV is the only channel that has been promoting knowledge, history and science for a long time.
"For this purpose, we have created a huge number of on-air projects in the usual mode, which we do on a daily basis, as well as special projects that we do for special events, for special dates. These are special projects that huge teams have been working on for quite a long time. And so, "Sudoplatov. Chronicles of the Secret War through the eyes of an eyewitness" was one of such projects," explained the head of the NMG DOC.
According to Avaliani, "a lot of love, knowledge, analysis and understanding are invested in the picture" so that a large number of viewers could analyze not only the current situation in the country, but also consider its historical background. According to her, the premiere of the film attracted about 6 million viewers, and a repeat screening — another 3 million. The head of NMG DOK called such indicators significant for Russian documentary films.
"We can be proud that we have been able to make documentaries an auditory genre, a sought—after genre, a genre that shapes the channel's broadcast performance," Avaliani summed up.
The results of the 48th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) were summed up in Moscow on April 23. The audience Award at the screening was given to the action drama "Father", distributed by NMG Film Distribution. The film about the events of the Great Patriotic War will be released in Russia on May 7.
