Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday held a meeting on ensuring security at the elections in the Russian Federation. The main topics of discussion were terrorism, ensuring safe elections in new regions, and supporting the participants of the Free Movement. The main statements of the Russian leader are in the Izvestia material.

About terrorist threats

During the meeting, Putin drew attention to the fact that the risks of terrorist threats are growing.: "The structures of international terrorism, radical and extremist groups continue their subversive work."

He also said that Kiev is increasingly attacking civilian infrastructure.: "The reasons are obvious, they are clear to everyone: the enemy is not able to stop the advance of our troops, our guys on the line of contact."

At the same time, he noted that the Russian authorities constantly pay attention to countering terrorism and protecting citizens, adding that the fight against terrorism must be fierce.

"The fight against extremism, radicalism, terror, and crime must be tough. I ask the leadership and personnel of all law enforcement agencies to carry out their duties responsibly, understanding the importance of this year's election campaign for the country, our political life and social stability, for the unity of society," he said.

On security in the 2026 elections

The Russian President warned of the possibility of serious provocations in the upcoming autumn elections in new Russian regions and said that the priority is the safety of all election participants: candidates, election commission members, observers, and tens of millions of people who will come to polling stations to vote.

"First of all, this concerns the Donetsk and Lugansk republics, the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions, where residents will elect deputies at the federal level for the first time," Putin said.

He also stressed that those who denied Donbass and Novorossiya the right to be part of their homeland, part of Russia, would, of course, try to prevent them.

"They don't hold elections in Ukraine under the pretext of martial law, and they will try to prevent us," the Russian president said, adding that strong, reliable, and characterful people live in these regions, "I'm sure you won't intimidate them — it's happened once before and it will happen again."

About the support of ITS participants and the country's economy

The President of Russia drew special attention to the fact that almost all Russian entrepreneurs take a patriotic position and help their fighters, therefore, the state must protect the interests of business. He also added that, despite the sanctions, the vast majority of Russian entrepreneurs "work efficiently and with full dedication."

"They take a patriotic position, sincerely strive to contribute to the achievement of Russia's development goals, help our soldiers at the front, support the participants of their military and their family members. And the state also needs to work in partnership with business, to ensure its legitimate rights and interests," Putin said.

The President also said, "It is the economy that is the key to fulfilling our tasks in the field of defense and security, and addressing key issues of the country's development, and in the social sphere, too," adding that the country's economy has been operating under serious external challenges for many years.

He also pointed out the need to create conditions for military personnel and employees involved in a special military operation to participate in the vote.

About the work of law enforcement agencies

Putin said he understands the heavy burden placed on law enforcement personnel: "I know about it. But we all also understand that serving the Fatherland, especially at such crucial historical moments that Russia is experiencing today, is still a special, honorable mission. I'm counting on you very much and I hope so."
