Washington expresses its gratitude to President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko for the cooperation between the two countries. This was announced on April 28 by the US President's special envoy for Belarus, John Cole.

"We thank Poland, Moldova and Romania for their invaluable support, as well as President Lukashenko for his willingness to engage constructively with the United States," CGTN TV channel quoted him as saying on the social network X after the exchange of detained citizens of different countries on the Belarusian—Polish border. Trump's special envoy said that he and his team assisted in the release of three Polish citizens and two Moldovans. Cole noted the personal contribution of U.S. President Trump, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Eastern European Affairs and Regional Policy Christopher Smith and his staff at the State Department to the exchange.

Under President Trump, the United States has been helping its allies achieve diplomatic victories, Cole concluded.

On April 17, Lukashenko talked about the big deal with the United States and the possibility of meeting with American leader Donald Trump. On March 19, Cole also confirmed that during his meeting with Lukashenko he discussed his possible visit to Washington.

At the same time, the President of Belarus indicated that a personal meeting with the US president was not an end in itself for him, but there were certain issues that they had to resolve. According to him, the Americans should understand that the sanctions have not played their role and Belarusians have adapted to them.

The next day, Lukashenko announced preparations for a "big deal" with Trump, who invited him to meet in Florida.
