Gatilov spoke about Russia's readiness to build up nuclear weapons in France
Russia provides for response measures in case France builds up nuclear weapons. This was announced on April 28 by Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov.
"In the event of the full implementation of the aforementioned plans by France and other NATO countries, we undoubtedly have adequate response measures in place to ensure the security of the Russian state and its people," the diplomat said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to him, Russia is closely monitoring the situation in France. He also stated that Moscow is committed to a responsible and restrained line on the issue of nuclear proliferation.
The Wirtualna Polska portal reported on April 23 that Paris and Warsaw will hold joint exercises of their Air Forces in the Baltic Sea, during which Rafale fighters will simulate the use of nuclear warheads. The authors of the article stressed that in exchange for "a kind of nuclear umbrella," French President Emmanuel Macron expects the Polish military to begin actively purchasing weapons, and the French energy company EDF to participate in the creation of a nuclear power plant in Poland.
