Telegram has blocked more than 105 thousand channels and groups in the world in a day.

On April 27, Telegram messenger blocked more than 105,000 channels and groups around the world. These data follow from the updated statistics published on the messenger's official website.

According to current information, more than 13.7 million groups and channels have been blocked on Telegram since the beginning of the year. Over the past week, the administration of the messenger has blocked almost 635 thousand channels.

The most massive blocking in the history of observations since December 2023 in the messenger occurred on January 1, 2026, when almost 543 thousand groups and channels were blocked. Analysis of statistics shows a significant increase in content moderation activity. In the first quarter of 2026, the Telegram administration blocked 51% more channels and groups that violate the service's policy compared to the same period last year.

On April 21, Izvestia learned that the Tagansky Court in Moscow found the Telegram messenger guilty of failing to remove content banned in Russia. It was noted that Telegram was given an administrative penalty in the form of a fine in the amount of 7 million rubles. The messenger was found guilty of an offense under Part 4 of Article 13.41 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the procedure for restricting access to information, access to which is subject to restriction in the Russian Federation").
