The introduction of the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions by the European Union (EU) will not help resolve the conflict that is being waged against Russia on the territory of Ukraine. Armando Mema, a Finnish politician and member of the Freedom Alliance party, announced this on April 28.

"As for the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, my position is clear: This will not help resolve the proxy war against Russia in Ukraine," he told RIA Novosti.

The politician pointed out that such measures only lead to an increase in tension between Russia and Europe.

On the same day, MEP Fernand Kartheiser pointed out that one of the reasons for the EU Council's refusal to ban the provision of services to tankers with Russian oil under the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions was concerns about a possible conflict with Russia. The politician noted that some EU countries are involved in organizing the provision of such services. For this reason, they may also oppose restrictive measures related to such activities.

On April 23, the EU finally approved the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. Thus, the European Council was given the opportunity to impose a complete ban on the maritime transportation of Russian oil and petroleum products.
