The mass departure of schoolchildren to colleges and technical schools is not always a positive trend. This was announced on April 28 by Oleg Smolin, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education.

"Why are guys going to college now? There are several reasons. One is that they want to start working and earning faster. <...> The second reason is the Unified State Exam. The guys don't want to waste their time and energy <...> on preparing for the exam," the deputy shared in an interview with Lenta.ru .

Smolin noted that many of his colleagues consider the mass transfer of young people to colleges to be a positive phenomenon, but the parliamentarian himself sees disadvantages in this. According to the deputy, the optimal ratio of high school and college students would be at least "50-50". This would provide more opportunities for training qualified specialists in the future, Smolin believes.

Maria Todorova, a neuropsychologist, specialist in child development and education, said on April 27 that reducing the school curriculum does not guarantee an improvement in the quality of education and may lead to a decrease in the level of education of students. According to her, children learn the material in different ways: for some, the current volume of the program is excessive, while others cope with it without difficulty and are ready for a higher learning rate.
