Pensioners in Russia are exempt from paying taxes on one type of property: apartments, houses and garages. Ekaterina Medyakova, an expert of the Federal Methodological Center for Improving Financial Literacy of the population of the IGSU Presidential Academy, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, recalled this on April 28.

"Pensioners are exempt from paying property tax on one object of each type. That is, if a pensioner has one apartment, one house and one garage, there is no need to pay tax on them. But the second apartment or the second garage will be taxed in full," she told RIA Novosti.

The pensioner has the right to decide for himself which of the real estate objects the benefit will apply to. Unless specifically stated, support measures will automatically be applied to the most expensive object during calculations.

Transport tax benefits are regulated by each region separately. Moreover, in most cases, certain support measures are provided for pensioners.

"Speaking of tax benefits, the housing and communal services sector cannot be ignored. The state has also provided support measures here, they are declarative in nature. We are talking about compensation of contributions for major repairs," the expert said.

Senator Igor Murog recalled another measure of support a day earlier. A pensioner can resign without a mandatory two—week work period if the official reason in the application is "due to retirement." The right to be dismissed without work is enshrined in the Labor Code. In this case, the employer is obliged to issue a dismissal order and make all payments on the same day.
