President of the United States Donald Trump grossly violated royal diplomatic protocol when he met King Charles III of Great Britain during the monarch's visit to the United States. This was reported on April 27 by the Daily Mail (DM) newspaper.

It is reported that one of the strictest rules categorically prohibits the initiation of any physical contact with the royals by third parties. At the same time, it is noted that Trump himself only wanted to greet the monarch and demonstrate his location to him.

"Trump touched the king's shoulder as a sign of affection, which violated royal protocol. An important point, an unwritten rule, is never to initiate physical contact with the royal couple," the article says.

Charles III and his wife, Queen Camilla, landed in Maryland earlier that day as part of a four-day trip to the United States. The visit comes amid tensions in US-British relations over the war in Iran. Trump is known to sharply criticize British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's refusal to provide military assistance to the United States.

Quentin Peel, a British political scientist and former Financial Times journalist, told Izvestia at the same time that Charles III's visit to the United States would not significantly improve relations between London and Washington.
