At a working meeting with Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko on April 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the results of the work of the Council of Legislators and issues of financial support for the regions. During the conversation, the head of the upper house of parliament said that 84 foreign speakers took part in the events dedicated to the 120th anniversary of Russian parliamentarism.

"Vladimir Vladimirovich, because the year is ending, the most important problems are at the end of the year, and you need to pay. If it is paid in March, then, of course, it will seriously facilitate the work," said the Chairman of the Federation Council, commenting on the proposal to change the repayment schedules.

Putin confirmed his willingness to meet the regions halfway on this issue. Special attention was paid to preparations for the Year of Unity of Nations, which, by presidential decree, was declared 2026. Matvienko stressed that issues of interethnic and interfaith harmony are discussed in detail at the parliamentary level.

The head of the Federation Council also invited the President to take part in a meeting of the Council on Demography, which is scheduled for June 1 — Children's Day. In addition, Matvienko expressed gratitude for the signing of the law, according to which April 9 is included in the all-Russian calendar as the day of the completion of the assault on Konigsberg.

She noted that residents of Kaliningrad, despite the actions of NATO countries and the West, remain calm and feel the support of the federal center. According to Matvienko, infrastructure is actively developing in the exclave, in particular, a new bridge has already been commissioned and construction of a second large facility is continuing.

On the same day, Putin met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, Abbas Araqchi. Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted the importance of the meeting between the Russian president and the Iranian Foreign Minister against the background of the situation around the Middle East.
