The court found guilty four defendants in the case of the death of a child in the swimming pool of the Volzhsky Bereg sports and recreation complex in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod region. This was announced on April 27 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

The director of the institution was sentenced to five years in a general regime colony, and three other defendants received sentences ranging from three and a half years suspended to four years in prison.

The investigative department of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation for the region then clarified that a month before the incident, the director of the complex had signed an agreement with an individual entrepreneur — it was he who provided the pool for classes. At the same time, the pool was not intended for children under the age of six, and the coach who conducted the classes did not know how to teach swimming and the basics of first aid, and also worked without an employment contract.

The incident occurred on October 5, 2023. The five-year-old boy, having remained out of sight of the trainer, went under water. Employees of the sports complex took the child out of the water and gave him first aid, but they could not save him. A criminal case was opened into the incident under paragraph "b" of Part 2 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Provision of services that do not meet the requirements for the safety of life and health of consumers, resulting in the death of a person by negligence").
